Cyanotype and Botanical Toning Workshop (In-Person)

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore toning cyanotypes with botanicals. Starting with the traditional cyanotype process, we’ll use digital negatives and organic materials for contact printing. Then, we’ll dive into bleaching and toning techniques, allowing you to experiment with at least two different toners.

Highlights:

  • Hand-coat cyanotype solution onto watercolour paper
  • Use digital negatives and organic materials for contact printing
  • Determine exposures using a UV light source
  • Develop, bleach (with soda ash), and tone prints using teas/botanicals

This workshop is open to participants of all skill levels, aged 18 years or older. All materials are provided. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes to avoid staining.

After registering, you’ll receive instructions for submitting files for your digital negatives.

Instructor:
Kate Young is a photographer working with traditional and alternative processes, with a focus on cyanotype and lumen printing. She recently showcased her work at the Cluster Photography & Print Fair in London, UK, and at Gallery 44’s fundraising exhibition in Toronto, Canada.
